Stefan Bojsten

Stefan Bojsten är sedan länge en av Sveriges mest etablerade pianister med priser i internationella piano och kammarmusiktävlingar bakom sig. Till exempel vann han 1985 tillsammans med violonisten Dan Almgren den prestigefyllda tävlingen Premio Vittorio Gui i Florens, vilket resulterade i inbjudningar till turnéer och festivaler i hela Europa. Han har som solist framträtt med de flesta svenska orkestrarna, och han har givit konserter i Skandinavien, Europa, Asien och USA. Som lärare har Stefan Bojsten givit mästarkurser i Skandinavien, Storbritanien, Frankrike, Italien, Ryssland och USA. Stefan Bojsten är sedan 1997 professor och chef för pianoavdelningen vid Kungliga Musikhögskolan i Stockholm. Stefan Bojsten har spelat in skivor på märkena Polar, Caprice, Bis, Naxos, Fermat, Artemis, MAP, Recut, Musica Sveciae och Opus 3.

Sofya Gulyak

In September 2009 Sofya Gulyak was awarded the 1st prize and the Princess Mary Gold Medal at the Sixteenth Leeds International Piano Competition – the first and up to the day of writing the only woman to achieve this distinction. Since then she has appeared all over the world to great acclaim.

Her recital programs are frequently reviewed in superlatives, and her concerto appearances with major orchestras are written up in glowing terms by the world’s music press. Sofya has been praised for her ”tremendous precision and coloration…exquisite soft playing …delicacy yet” and described as a” Rach star”(”Washington Post”).

Sofya Gulyak’s resume includes prizes at many prestigious piano competitions:  she is a 1st prize winner of William Kapell International piano competition in USA, Maj Lind Helsinki International piano competition, Tivoli piano competition in Copenhagen, Gyeongnam International piano competition in South Corea, San Marino piano competition, 2nd prize winner( first not awarded) of  Busoni competition in Italy and 3rd prize winner of Marguerite Long piano competition in Paris.

Sofya Gulyak is a native of Kazan (Russia) where she studied in a Special Music College, and then in Kazan State Conservatoire under professor  Elfiya Burnasheva. Ms.Gulyak graduated also from ”Ecole Normale de music de Paris Alfred Cortot” with the highest distinction. After she continued her studying in Piano Academy ”Incontri coi Maestri” (Imola, Italy) with Boris Petrushansky and in Royal College of Music with Vanessa Latarche.

Recitals and concert appearances have been numerous, with Ms.Gulyak having performed all over the globe in such venues as La Scala Theatre and Sala Verdi in Milan, Hercules-Saal in Munich, Salle Cortot, Salle Gaveau and Salle Pleyel in Paris, Big concert Hall of Moscow Conservatoire, Konzerthaus in Berlin, Gewandhaus in Leipzig, Kennedy-center in Washington, Palais de Musique in Strasbourg, Hong Kong City Hall, Shanghai Grand Theatre, Finlandia  Hall in Helsinki, Bridgewater Hall in Manchester, Teatro Municipal in Rio de Janeiro, Aberdeen Music Hall,  Salle Moliere in Lyon, Walt Disney Hall in Los Angeles, King Theatre in Rabat, Kursaal in Bern, Tivoli concert Hall in Copenhagen.

Ms. Gulyak appeared as a soloist with London Philharmonic Orchestra, Finnish Radio Symphony, Saint-Petersburg Philharmonic, Rio-de-Janeiro Symphony, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, Halle Orchestra, BBC Scottish, Orchestra of Fondazione Arena di Verona, Orchestra Filarmonica di Bologna, Bucharest Philharmonic, Stavanger Symphony, Deutsche Staatsphilharmonie Rheinland-Pfalz orchestra, Ulster Symphony, Oulu Philharmonic, Leipzig Philharmonic, Helsinki Philharmonic, Morocco Philharmonic, Copenhagen Symphony, Orchestre National de France, Philippines Philharmonic, Shanghai Philharmonic.

She collaborated with such conductors as Vladimir Ashkenazy, Sakari Oramo, Mark Elder, David Hill, Donald Runnicle, Vasily Petrenko, Alan Buribayev, Eiving Gullberg Jensen, Theodor Guschlbauer, Rory McDonald, Danail Rachev, Fabio Mastrangelo, Michele Mariotti, Fuat Mansurov. The festivals Sofya participated include Klavier Ruhr Festival, Chopin festival in Duzniki-Zdroj, Festival du Sceaux, International Keyboard Festival in New York, International Strasbourg festival, Busoni festival, Harrogate festival, Cracow piano festival, New Zealand Piano festival, Liszt Festival  at  villa d’Este, Nordlys festival in Norway, Ravello Festival, Festival Chopin in Paris, Shanghay International Piano Festival and Sala Beethoven Piano Festival at Monterey.

Ms. Gulyak also attended as a jury member at the international piano competitions in Italy, Serbia, France, Greece, USA, and also was invited to teach at the master classes in China, Italy, Australia, New Zealand, Philippines, Hong Kong. She is also a professor of the piano faculty at the Royal College of Music in London. Her playing was broadcasted on the radio and TV in Russia, Poland, France, Italy, Germany, USA, Finland, Denmark, Serbia, New Zealand, United Kingdom (BBC 3 and BBC 4) etc.

Peter Friis Johansson

Sedan sin recitaldebut vid 17 års ålder har Peter Friis Johansson (f.1983) etablerat sig som en av Sveriges mest framgångsrika unga konsertpianister. Han har framträtt i större delen av Sveriges konserthus och säsongen 09/10 omfattar konserter på bl.a. Musikverein i Wien, Concertgebouw i Amsterdam och Philharmonien i Köln, samt solistuppdrag med Sveriges Radios Symfoniorkester.

För sitt framförande av Dmitri Sjostakovitjs 1:a pianokonsert utnämndes Peter till ”årets unga solist 2007” och erhöll samtidigt det prestigefyllda Solofonipriset. Han har framträtt med bland andra Gävle och Helsingborgs symfoniorkestrar och har gjort en rad inspelningar för SR och SVT. Bland Peters senaste triumfer kan nämnas seger i Yamaha pianotävling samt andrapris i Nordisk Pianotävling 2008.

Vid sidan om sin solistkarriär är Peter en passionerad kammarmusiker och har etablerade samarbeten med bland andra klarinettisten Emil Jonason och cellisterna Andreas Brantelid och Jakob Koranyi. Tillsammans med sistnämnde spelade Peter under hösten 2006 in sin första skiva för Caprice Records och genomförde en efterföljande rikstäckande lanseringsturné i samarbete med Rikskonserter.

Peter brinner även för den moderna konstmusiken och har uruppfört verk av bland andra Wolfgang Plagge, Jesper Nordin och Christoffer Elgh. Han är en av de drivande krafterna i ensemblen NordicFusion6 som ser som sitt primära mål att utforska gränserna mellan notbunden konstmusik och experimentell kontemporär improvisation.

Sedan 2008 arbetar Peter med den ryska fantompianisten Konstantin Bogino och Anders Kilström som sina mentorer. Våren 2007 avslutade Peter Masterutbildningen vid Kungliga Musikhögskolan i Stockholm där han tillbringat två år med ovannämnde samt Staffan Scheja som lärare. Sedan tidigare har han en bachelor från Edsbergs Musikinstitut där han studerade för prof. Mats Widlund. Peter började spela piano vid nio års ålder för Inger Flyckt i kommunala musikskolan.

Peter Donohoe

Peter Donohoe was born in Manchester in 1953. He studied at Chetham’s School of Music for seven years, graduated in music at Leeds University, and went on to study at the Royal Northern College of Music with Derek Wyndham and then in Paris with Olivier Messiaen and Yvonne Loriod. He is acclaimed as one of the foremost pianists of our time, for his musicianship, stylistic versatility and commanding technique.

 

In recent seasons Donohoe has appeared with the Dresden Philharmonic Orchestra, the BBC Concert Orchestra, the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra, the St Petersburg Philharmonia, RTE National Symphony Orchestra, the Belarusian State Symphony Orchestra, the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra and CBSO, a UK tour with the Russian State Philharmonic Orchestra, as well as concerts in South America, Europe, Hong Kong, South Korea, Russia, and the USA. Other engagements include performances of all three MacMillian piano concertos with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, a series of concerts for the Ravel and Rachmaninov Festival at Bridgewater Hall alongside Noriko Ogawa, and performances with The Orchestra of the Swan. Donohoe is also in high demand as an adjudicator at piano competitions around the world. Donohoe’s recent competitions have been the International Tchaikovsky Piano Competition, Moscow, the Queen Elisabeth Competition, Belgium, and the Hong Kong International Piano Competition.

 

Recent discs include a recording of Witold Maliszewski’s Piano Concerto in B flat minor with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra conducted by Martin Yates (Dutton Vocalion), as well as three discs of Prokofiev piano sonatas for SOMM Records, the third of which was released at the end of April 2016. The first Prokofiev disc was described by Gramophone as ‘devastatingly effective’, declaring Donohoe to be ‘in his element’, and a review in Classical Notes identified Donohoe’s ‘remarkably sensitive approach to even the most virtuosic of repertoire’. His second Prokofiev disc was given 5 stars by BBC Music Magazine. Other recordings include Cyril Scott’s Piano Concerto with the BBC Concert Orchestra and Martin Yates (Dutton Vocalion), and Malcolm Arnold’s Fantasy on a Theme of John Field with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra and Martin Yates (also Dutton), for which BBC Music Magazine described him as an ‘excellent soloist’, and Gramophone stated that it ‘compelled from start to finish’.

 

Donohoe has performed with all the major London orchestras, as well as orchestras from across the world such as Royal Concertgebouw, Leipzig Gewandhaus, Munich Philharmonic, Swedish Radio, Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, Vienna Symphony and Czech Philharmonic Orchestras. He has also played with the Berliner Philharmoniker in Sir Simon Rattle’s opening concerts as Music Director. He made his twenty-second appearance at the BBC Proms in 2012 and has appeared at many other festivals including six consecutive visits to the Edinburgh Festival, La Roque d’Anthéron in France, and at the Ruhr and Schleswig Holstein Festivals in Germany. In the United States, his appearances have included the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Boston, Chicago, Pittsburgh, Cleveland and Detroit Symphony Orchestras. Peter Donohoe also performs numerous recitals internationally and continues working with his long standing duo partner Martin Roscoe, as well as more recent collaborations with artists such as Raphael Wallfisch, Elizabeth Watts and Noriko Ogawa.

 

Donohoe has worked with many of the world’s greatest conductors: Christoph Eschenbach, Neeme Jarvi, Lorin Maazel, Kurt Masur, Andrew Davis and Yevgeny Svetlanov. More recently he has appeared as soloist with the next generation of excellent conductors such as Gustavo Dudamel, Robin Ticciati and Daniel Harding. Peter Donohoe is an honorary doctor of music at seven UK universities, and was awarded a CBE for services to classical music in the 2010 New Year’s Honours List.

Özgür Aydin

Turkish pianist Ozgur Aydin made his major orchestral debut in 1997 in a performance of Brahms’ Piano Concerto No.1 in D minor with the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra. In the same year, he won the renowned ARD International Music Competition in Munich and the Nippon Music Award in Tokyo – recognition that has since served as the basis for an active and diverse international performing career. He is also a laureate of the Cleveland International Piano Competition.

Mr. Aydin has appeared as soloist with numerous orchestras in Germany and Turkey, as well as with the BBC Concert Orchestra London, the Simon Bolivar Youth Orchestra of Venezuela, Slovak State Philharmonic and Canada’s Calgary Philharmonic. Frequently invited to summer music festivals, he has appeared at Salzburg, Schleswig-Holstein, Rheingau, Ravinia and Edinburgh.

Mr. Aydin regularly performs chamber music concerts and recitals, in such prestigious concert venues as Munich’s Herkulessaal and Gasteig, Hamburg’s Musikhalle, London’s Wigmore Hall, Tokyo’s Suntory Hall and Opera City Recital Hall, New York’s Carnegie Hall and 92nd Street Y, Boston’s Symphony Hall, Cleveland’s Severance Hall as well as Washingtons’s Kennedy Center. He is a founding member of the Aurata Quintet, and enjoys recurrent collaborations with violinist Midori, violist Naoko Shimizu, and members of the Berlin Philharmonic.

Mr. Aydin has made solo piano recordings of music by Chopin, Liszt, Mozart, Rachmaninoff, and Schumann for the European labels Videal and Yapi Kredi. Among other recordings released in Europe and Japan three CDs of viola/piano duets with Naoko Shimizu.

Born in Colorado to Turkish parents, Mr. Aydin began his music studies at the Ankara Conservatory in Turkey. He subsequently studied with Peter Katin at the Royal College of Music in London and with Karl-Heinz Kammerling at the Hanover Music Academy. He has also received valuable instruction from artists such as Tatiana Nikolaeva, Andras Schiff and Gyorgy Kurtag at master classes and festivals.

Olga Kern

Olga Kern is now recognized as one of her generation’s great pianists. With her vivid stage presence, passionately confident musicianship and extraordinary technique, the Russian-born, American pianist continues to captivate fans and critics alike. Olga Kern was born into a family of musicians with direct links to Tchaikovsky and Rachmaninoff and began studying piano at the age of five. She jumpstarted her U.S. career with her historic Gold Medal at the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition in Fort Worth, Texas as the first woman to do so in more than thirty years.

Steinway Artist and First prize winner of the Rachmaninoff International Piano Competition at the age of seventeen, Ms. Kern is a laureate of many international competitions and tours throughout Russia, Europe, the United States, Japan, South Africa and South Korea. The first Olga Kern International Piano Competition has been announced to take place in Albuquerque, New Mexico in autumn, 2016, where Ms. Kern will serve as Artistic Director and President of the Jury. Ms. Kern is a corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Division of the Arts. In June 2016 she will be the Jury Chairman of the Seventh Cliburn International Amateur Piano Competition.

Ms. Kern’s performance career has brought her to many of the world’s most important venues, including the Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatory, Symphony Hall in Osaka, Salzburger Festspielhaus, La Scala in Milan, Tonhalle in Zurich, Avery Fisher Hall and Carnegie Hall in New York, and the Châtelet in Paris. She has appeared as a soloist with the Mariinsky Theatre Orchestra, the Bolshoi Theater, the Moscow Philharmonic, London Symphony, St. Petersburg Academic Symphony, Russian National, China National Symphony, Stuttgart State Orchestra, La Scala Philharmonic, Royal Scottish National Orchestra, Torino Symphony, and Cape Town Symphony Orchestras. Ms. Kern has also collaborated with the most prominent conductors in the world today, including Leonard Slatkin, James Conlon, Marin Alsop, Valery Gergiev, Pinchas Zukerman, Christoph Eschenbach, Antoni Wit, Manfred Honeck, Constantine Orbelian, Gian-Carlo Guerrero and Vladimir Spivakov.

Ms. Kern opens the Baltimore Symphony’s 2015-2016 centennial season with Marin Alsop. Other season highlights include returns to the Royal Philharmonic with Pinchas Zukerman, Orchestre Philharmonique de Nice with Giancarlo Guerrero, Rochester Philharmonic and San Antonio Symphony, a month-long tour of South Africa for concerts with the Cape and KwaZulu Natal philharmonics, an Israeli tour with the Israel Symphony, solo recitals at Sarasota’s Van Wezel Hall, New York’s 92nd Street Y, and the University of Kansas’ Lied Center, and recitals with Renée Fleming in Carnegie Hall and Berkeley.

In the 2014-2015 season, Olga was performing with the NHK Symphony in Tokyo and Osaka, the symphonies of Detroit playing all three Tchaikovsky Piano Concertos for an eponymous festival honoring the composer, Nashville, Colorado, Madison, Austin, Mobile, and Santa Rosa, along with the New Mexico Philharmonic and was giving recitals in Seattle and Louisville, as well as alongside soprano Renée Fleming in Boston and Washington, D.C.

In the 2013-2014 season, Olga performed with the symphonies of Cincinnati, Detroit and Pittsburgh along with the New Mexico Philharmonic and the Orquestra Sinfônica do Estado de São Paulo and presented recital programs in New York, San Francisco, Vancouver, Orange County, California and at the Van Cliburn Foundation. She also performed alongside Vladimir Spivakov and the esteemed Moscow Virtuosi in Avery Fisher Hall in New York City.

In the 2012-2013 season, Olga performed with the Symphonies of Nashville, Pittsburgh, Detroit and San Diego and performed in recital in St. Louis, Dallas, and Scottsdale, Arizona and at Lincoln Center in New York City as part of the Cherry Orchard Festival.

In 2013, for a celebration of Rachmaninoff’s 140th year, Olga Kern performed all four Piano Concerti and the Rachmaninoff Rhapsody on a Theme by Paganini in collaboration with Leonard Slatkin and the Orchestre National De Lyon. Ms. Kern has also performed this special program in South Africa, Warsaw, and with several orchestras across the United States. In 2012 she was invited by director Steven Spielberg to perform for the Shoah Foundation’s annual gala in Los Angeles.

Other past seasons in North America have seen Olga perform with the symphonies of Chicago, Houston, St. Louis, Dallas Baltimore, and Vancouver and with the Los Angeles Philharmonic at the Hollywood Bowl. She has presented recital programs in the most esteemed concert halls and alongside artists such as soprano Kathleen Battle at Carnegie Hall and soprano Renee Fleming at Kennedy Center. In February of 2012, Olga made an extensive recital tour of North America with violinist Vladimir Spivakov.

Recent international appearances have included tours of Austria, Italy and Switzerland with the Warsaw Philharmonic and Maestro Antoni Wit, a tour of Germany with the Czech Philharmonic and Maestro Zdenek Maçal, performances with the orchestras of Academy of La Scala in Bad Kissingen, Copenhagen and Lyon, and recitals in Milan, Paris, Hamburg, Luxembourg, Reykjavik ,Bucharest and Zagreb. She made her London debut with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in 2006 followed by her Proms debut in 2008. Ms. Kern has performed recently with the Seoul Philharmonic, Taipei Symphony, and in Mexico, Peru, Columbia, Egypt, Morocco, Turkey, Chile, Israel as well as at the Sangat Chamber Music Festival in Mumbai, India. In June of 2002, Olga Kern made an extensive tour of South Africa where she returned to tour again in February of 2005 with her brother, Vladimir Kern, conducting. Ms. Kern was the Artistic Director of the Cape Town Festival in South Africa from 2006 until 2011 and returns there annually.

Ms. Kern was the recipient of an honorary scholarship from the President of Russia in 1996. She studied with Professor Sergei Dorensky at the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory, and Professor Boris Petrushansky at the acclaimed Accademia Pianistica Incontri col Maestro in Imola, Italy.

In addition to performing, Ms. Kern devotes her time to the support and education of developing musicians. In 2012, Olga and her brother, conductor and composer, Vladimir Kern, co-founded the “Aspiration” foundation whose objective is to provide financial and artistic assistance to musicians throughout the world. Ms. Kern lives in New York City with her son, Vladislav Kern, who studies piano in the Juilliard School’s pre-college program.

Ms. Kern’s discography includes Harmonia Mundi recordings of the Tchaikovsky Piano Concerto No. 1 with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra and Christopher Seaman (2003), her Grammy Nominated recording of Rachmaninoff’s Corelli Variations and other transcriptions (2004), a recital disk with works by Rachmaninoff and Balakirev (2005), Chopin’s Piano Concerto No. 1 with the Warsaw Philharmonic and Antoni Wit (2006), Brahms Variations (2007) and a 2010 release of Chopin Piano Sonatas No. 2 and 3 (2010). Most recently, SONY released their recording of Ms. Kern performing the Rachmaninoff Sonata for Cello and Piano with cellist Sol Gabetta. She was also featured in the award-winning documentary about the 2001 Cliburn Competition, Playing on the Edge, as well as Olga’s Journey, Musical Odyssey in St. Petersburg and in They Came to Play.

“Sheer talent does not come more transparently,” writes Bryce Morrison in The Gramophone.

“Call it star quality—music likes Kern the way the camera liked Garbo,” writes Ronald Broun in The Washington Post. “Her electricity at the keyboard is palpable, and though she generates it from the music itself, as it flows through her fingers, it takes on fresh voltage that is unmistakably hers.”

Matti Raekallio

Born in Helsinki in 1954, Matti Raekallio studied in his home country of Finland, as well as with Maria Curcio in London, Dieter Weber at the Vienna Academy of Music, and at the Leningrad (now Saint Petersburg) Conservatory. He has been an active concert performer, making his American debut in 1981 at the Carnegie (Weill) Recital Hall. Since then, he has made regular tours of the US, including solo recitals and performances with several American orchestras. He has performed complete cycles of the 32 Beethoven Sonatas, the 10 Scriabin Sonatas, and the 9 Prokofiev Sonatas, as well as a total of 62 piano concertos. He has made approximately 20 CD recordings for Ondine.

In 2007, Matti Raekallio joined the faculty of the Juilliard School in New York. He previously held professorships at the University of Music and Drama in Hanover, Germany, the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, the Swedish Royal College of Music in Stockholm, and Western Michigan University in the US. Matti Raekallio’s students include several first prize winners in major international piano competitions. He frequently serves as a juror and gives regular master classes throughout the US, Europe, and Asia.

Matti Raekallio’s doctorate in music at the Sibelius Academy focused on the history of piano fingering. He subsequently became a member of an international research team investigating pianists’ choice of fingering from the viewpoint of cognitive psychology. From 1998 through 2000, he served as a member of the Research Council for Culture and Society of the Finnish Academy of Science and Letters.

Matti Hirvonen

Matti Hirvonen föddes i Sorsele och studerade piano vid Sibeliusakademien i Helsingfors och vid Kgl. Musikhögskolan i Stockholm. Han fortsatte sina studier privat i London för Peter Feuchtwanger (piano) och Geoffrey Parsons (ackompanjemang). Sedan sina studieår har han specialiserat sig på kammarmusik och romansackompanjemang och har framträtt med många framstående instrumantalister, t.ex. violinisterna Isabelle van Keulen och Leon Spierer, klarinettisterna Karl Leister och Michael Collins och cellisten Truls Mörk.Hans karriär som ackompanjatör började med sopranen Elisabet Söderström. Sedan dess har han samarbetat med bl.a Nina Stemme, Hillevi Martinpelto, Miah Persson, Anna Larsson, Margareta Hallin, Maria Fontosh, Susanna Andersson, Ida Falk Winland, Håkan Hagegård, Erik Saedén och Peter Mattei. Matti Hirvonen är en flitig gäst vid många viktiga musikcentra och festivaler runt om i världen, t.ex. Edinburgh International festival, Aix-en Provence, Båstad kammarmusik, Usedom Festival, New York (Carnegie Hall), Warszawa, Budapest, Rom, Bryssel, Paris, Helsinki, Oslo, Antwerpen, Madrid, Tokyo.

Mats Widlund

As a soloist Mats Widlund has regularly worked with all Sweden’s leading orchestras and with such conductors as Thomas Dausgaard, Hans Graf, Gennady Rozhdestvensky, Leonard Slatkin, Leif Segerstam and Bruno Weil . His many piano recitals have included a series of Mozart’s complete piano sonatas in the Stockholm Concert Hall. He has performed in Japan, USA and many European countries. Mats Widlund is a passionated chambermusician and have made several high acclaimed CD’s with some of the foremost swedish instrumentalists in music by Beethoven, Ravel, Schostakovitch, Schönberg, as well as contemporary swedish composers.

As a soloist Mats Widlund has made more than a hundred radio recordings and has also recorded Swedish piano music for several record companies. Particularly noteworthy are his recordings of Stenhammar’s Piano Concerto No. 1 with Gennady Rozhdestvensky and the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra (Chandos Records), Rosenberg’s two Piano Concertos with Petter Sundqvist and the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra (Daphne Records) and Dag Wirén’s Piano Concerto with Petri Sakari and the Swedish Chamber Orchestra (Caprice).

He is artistic director of “The Chamber Serie” in Örebro Concert Hall and the Chamber Music Festival in Sandviken together with the flutist Tobias Carron. Mats Widlund was appointed professor at the Royal College of Music and Edsberg Manor 2002. He has been visiting professor at music academies Helsinki (Sibelius), Oslo, Tallin, Rome (Arts Academy) etc.
